“I particularly appeal to our intelligentsia and students to
come forward and rise to the occasion. You have performed wonders in the past. You are still capable of repeating the history. You are not lacking in the great qualities and virtues in comparison with the other nations. Only you have to be fully conscious of that fact and to act with courage, faith and unity.”
(Quaid-e-Azam 23rd March 1943)
Dear members,
We celebrate Pakistan Resolution Day today. We celebrate 64 years of independence. We celebrate 64 years of freedom... But do we really?
There is a list of tragedies that have occurred to our nation in
recent years that should be listed here but that list would be very very long.
To shorten it up a bit; from Dr. Afia to Raymond Davis, from Asia bibi to the hajj corruption issue, from Mughees and Muneeb to the thousand anonymous others, from Salman Taseer to Shahbaz Bhatti, from thousands of mothers praying to God for a miracle as their children cry to sleep hungry to the fabulous french cuisine-alcohol laden events we so eagerly wait to gossip about after every Sunday, from the flood wiping away over 1/4 of Pakistan to the education and medical emergency, from the earthquake to the terrorism existing in our country, from everyone who voted for the current government to everyone who didn't bother to vote at all.
From all of the above and more, what have we learned? In these 64 years, what have we, the educated class, learned?
Itehad, Iman aur Tanzeem. The principles on which our country was founded. The meaning of these words we seem to have forgotten. Today we ask you to think. Think this 23rd of March of what you want your nation to be. We plead you to not sit and debate over causes to unite,we beg you to set aside your differences for once in this country's rocky history, we ask you to let the green and the white in your flag co-exist peacefully, we implore you to let this be the day you decide to work for Pakistan's cause rather than your own, we request you to learn. To learn something from the trauma she has been through. We entreat you to stop the discussions and the debates, the arguments and the theories, the judgments and the clashes, We ask you to step up. We ask you to stop looking for people to step up with or for.
We ask you to ponder on whether this is the Pakistan our ancestors dreamt of. We ask you not to limit your patriotism to cricket. We ask you to observe our circumstances and decide if you did a good job protecting what was given to you 64 years ago.
Sign the Education Emergency petition right now.
Take a certain sum from your pocket money every month and donate it to acause of your choice.
Take responsibility for your servants children's education.
Donate blood to a nearby hospital.
Take flowers, clothes anything at all to an old age home.
Intern at a school this summer.
Donate all your books and stationary to a school nearby.
Ask your servant if there is anyone needy in their community and provide assistance if possible.
Donate clothes, money to reliable NGO's still working for the flood affectees.
Go to the hospital and inquire if there are any patients needing financial assistance.
Can't manage any of the above?
Then just smile at your servant, say salam first and treat them with the respect they deserve.
Decide today what you want your country to be like tomorrow.
We wish you all a very Happy Pakistan Resolution Day in the hope that Unity, Faith and Discipline may become the crux of the beliefs our country functions on from now onwards.
